The ongoing conflict in Syria has led to widespread displacement, resulting in a low average income for many in northwest Syria. Individuals face significant challenges in finding stable employment and often rely on limited job opportunities within their communities. The sharp depreciation of the Syrian Pound (SYP) due to the conflict has caused financial instability, making it difficult for families to afford essential items and increasing the costs of imported goods.
Access to educational facilities, such as schools and libraries, is often restricted in war-affected areas of northwest Syria. Schools may be overcrowded or damaged, which hampers children's ability to receive quality education. The scarcity of libraries and educational resources further limits opportunities for learning and personal development.
The cost of living in northwest Syria has skyrocketed due to resource scarcity, inflation, and limited economic prospects. Families struggle to meet expenses for housing, food, healthcare, and education for their children. Millions have fled from bombings and chemical attacks in cities like Aleppo, seeking refuge in small towns near the Turkish border, where they find temporary safety and where some NGOs are able to operate. There is an urgent need for training programs to help refugees acquire skills for employment.
To enhance access to education, investing in online learning and remote courses is essential. Developing virtual classrooms and online programs for English and computer training will provide flexibility for adult and child students who cannot attend in-person classes or who are located in different areas. We started in partnership with Syrians Without Borders and now are known as Alkaml Youth Institute.
