A new co-working/event space in Brussels focuses on learning about Commons, Public Goods, and DAOs, nurturing community relationships, and achieving full collective ownership within five years.

What is the Commons Hub Brussels? The Commons Hub Brussels is a brand new physical space (started June 1st 2024) for local and global citizens in the capital of Europe, right next to the Central Station. The space offers opportunities to co-work and meet in the big co-working area on the first floor. And it houses a big event space to organise gatherings, general assemblies, conferences for cross-pollination and education. The purpose of the space is to become a vibrant educational space to learn about creating and managing Commons, Public Goods and DAOs.

The space will be completely run as a common/public good itself, in a fully transparent way, with the principles of Elinor Ostrom as our guide and the web3 space as a source of inspiration when it comes to integrating the right technology. The space will contribute to bringing commons, participative democracy and collaboration within communities as one of the main transition topics in the heart of Europe. We are aiming for full collective ownership within 5 years.

Why do we take part in the Collab Round?

One of the main focuses of The Commons Hub Brussels is to actively and continuously look for ways to move from transactions to conscious relationships within the community: how do we nurture our relationships and the community in this space? How do we develop a culture of mutual care? And how do we facilitate an environment where we all have skin in the game? Good relationships come with clear agreements for all community members.

To manage our common, we will build active partnerships with collectives (local and global) that are value-aligned and bring enormous value to the space, but have limited resources.
In return for using the space, they will pick up shifts to maintain the space. In other words, they will not pay with money, they will pay with time, a direct investment in keeping the space tidy and members happy.

In the next three months (August, September, October) we will bring this mechanism on chain, to automate processes, have full transparancy and full accountability. We will do this work in full partnership with the local crypto community, DAO Brussels (www.dao.brussels), and with support of the Citizen Wallet (https://citizenwallet.xyz). By the end of December 2024 we want all partnering collectives to have an agreement on chain, automated and in place. This is also the time our legal cooperative will be finalised, to kick off 2025 with all basic infrastructure in place.

All outcomes of our work will be shared in copyleft with anyone needing systems and mechanism like us.

Very grateful for all support, please come visit us in Brussels. ❤️🙏🏽
