Fostering Ethereum development in Ghana, ETHAccra hosts hackathons and campus tours to bridge the local Solidity developer skill gap and position Accra as a Web3 innovation hub.

ETHAccra is growing the web3 builder ecosystem in Ghana through hackathons, Community and University Campus Events. We're bringing the Ethereum community to Ghana, which is one of the most crypto-friendly countries in Africa and a hub of web3 development in the region.

Why This Project? Africa currently faces a shortage of skilled Solidity developers. This gap hinders Africa's ability to fully harness the transformative power of web3 technology and the decentralized future it promises. ETHAccra seeks to address this challenge by providing a comprehensive platform that brings together the world's top Ethereum builders with local aspiring talents to collaboratively create truly disruptive projects.

Why Accra? Nigeria is one of the biggest economy in Africa and is home to great technical innovation. Thousands of Nigerian engineers have sparked the attention online. On the other side, Ghana is the smaller sister of Nigeria. Politically and economically stable, safe to travel. Both countries have English as their official language and are culturally linked: Musicians collaborate, โ€ฆ and they share the passion for food, especially Jollof, although they argue which country has the better recipe.:-)

Anyways, this makes Accra, the capital of Ghana, the perfect place for the first Ethereum Hackathon in West Africa:

  • It is a safe place for international people to travel to. In fact, Google, Roche and other big companies have their West African offices in Ghana because of this.
  • All people with a West African passport can travel freely to Ghana without visa restrictions. In fact, Ghana is for a lot of upper-class Nigerians a holiday destination.
  • Accra is centrally located in West Africa: Itโ€™s a 1 hour flight from most cities including Lagos and a 10 hour drive from Lagos.

For these reasons, we believe that Accra will become the hub for great ideas and the driver for the Ethereum driven ethos in West Africa. ETH Accra will be the first milestone of this journey.

Hackathon 2023 Hackathon: September 7th - September 9th Hackathon page(Taikai) https://taikai.network/ethaccra/hackathons/hackathon

ETHAccra hackathon is a 3-day in-person hackathon aimed at educating young generations of web3 developers and builders. The hackathon encourages the creation of new applications that can help address local problems in West Africa and also advance the Ethereum community in West Africa. ๐Ÿš€

ETHAccra aims to gather developers and builders from diverse backgrounds to foster the creation of new applications and smart contracts, boost creativity and innovation, and inspire developers with the skills and experience necessary to become proficient in Solidity.

University Campus Tour ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ“๐ŸšŒ๐ŸšŒ As part of our outreach efforts, we have been embarking on a comprehensive university campus tour across Ghana's top institutions. This tour is not just about promoting the ETHAccra Hackathon; it's about sparking a passion for Ethereum and web3 technologies among the brightest minds in the country.

By engaging directly with computer science students, we are able to introduce them to the potential of Ethereum, inspire them with real-world applications, and equip them with the resources to start their journey in the Ethereum ecosystem. This grassroots approach ensures we are reaching those who can truly drive innovation in the Ethereum space - the next generation of developers and builders.

Moreover, the campus tour serves as a platform for students to network with like-minded peers and industry professionals, fostering a supportive community that will extend beyond the duration of the hackathon.

In essence, the university campus tour is a crucial step in our mission to empower young Ghanaians to become leaders in the Ethereum and broader web3 community and to ensure that the benefits of these transformative technologies are fully realized in Ghana and across Africa.
