hashlists: A New Approach to Onchain Curated Lists
hashlists is a protocol that we are building for the creation and management of curated lists on the blockchain. By organizing blockchain addresses into specific sets, hashlists provides a way to manage allowlists, blocklists, or other curated groups, which are useful for conditional onchain interactions. This is particularly relevant for enhancing security, controlling access, and facilitating community governance within decentralized ecosystems.
The Origin of hashlists: Universal GRAVE
The hashlists protocol emerged from our work on the Universal GRAVE project, an open-source initiative that addresses the spam problem in the Web3 space. The GRAVE was a Buidlbox hackathon winner for the LUKSO Build UP in November 2023. During the hackathon, we realized that blockchain users often face a barrage of unwanted tokens with no effective way to opt-out or filter these transactions. The GRAVE project, designed to tackle this issue, provided the inspiration for hashlists as a solution for onchain curation, allowing users to control and manage unwanted assets more effectively.
Importance of hashlists for Arbitrum
Arbitrum, a leading Layer 2 solution, experiences similar issues with spam and unsolicited tokens due to its high activity and low-cost transactions. hashlists can play a crucial role in addressing these challenges by providing curated blocklists to reduce unwanted transactions, curated allowlists for controlled access, and tools for managing governance and community interactions. The protocol's flexibility and adaptability make it a valuable addition to the Arbitrum ecosystem, offering solutions that enhance security and improve the user experience.
