Neume is building open infrastructure for music & creative industries, featuring an open-source indexer for blockchain crawling, front-end app support, and aims to expand contract indexing and develop APIs.

neume is an open-source, credibly neutral, and socially scalable project to build open infrastructure for the future of the music & creative industries.

To date, we have built an open source indexer that runs "strategies" to define the contracts to point towards, and the schema of data to expect, and then crawls blockchains directly.

This data is collated and provided to front-end applications on a 10 minute update cadence. You can see the latest block that has been crawled and contains new NFT data here. An example of an application built with neume data can be seen at musicOS.

Looking forwards, we have a number of goals, which we would love support via gitcoin as part of our development:

  • Expansion of the types of contracts that are indexed, currently our work has focussed on the few largest music NFT marketplaces, but neume should facilitate the indexing of music regardless of source
  • Develop indexing for onchain curation, for example, working with Public Assembly to develop strategies to index its curation protocol
  • Develop additional indexing strategies that centre around things like wallet arrays rather than market contracts
  • Develop indexing for identity and agreements, which will support onchain curation development , but also lead the way for the creation of "agreement network" layers to the onchain stack
  • Develop an open API for applications to use that will make it easier to consumer data indexed by neume (neume will always remain open, but app developers expect easy to use data sets, which risks dependence on 3rd parties)
  • Develop comprehensive documentation to improve developer onboarding and improve the project's "social scalability"

An example of one version of the vision that neume is working towards can be seen in the post that Dan put out recently.
