PGF Ethereum México Project Description

Ethereum Mexico is a driving force for Ethereum growth in Mexico, educating individuals on blockchain technology and promoting Ethereum values. Serving as a link between the Ethereum community, the Ethereum Foundation, and Mexico's local communities.

To ensure the impressive growth we’ve seen in the community is sustained and driven by what’s been impactful, we’ve created PGF Ethereum Mexico: a working group experimenting with local implementations of Public Goods Funding Methods. At PGF Ethereum Mexico we are running our first Public Goods Funding Round with our custom easyRetroPGFxMACI build which incorporates Hypercerts. We have learned a lot through the design, development and implementation of this round and believe this knowledge must be shared. It is for this reason that we are creating a blueprint with all of our learnings so it can serve as an easy to implement recipe for local communities looking to fund the edges where impact is generated.

The blueprint

Running a round for a local community is much more different than running one for a web3 ecosystem. Resources are much more limited, both technical, operational and economic, the design of incentives needs to consider more diverse audiences and the political, geographical and socioeconomic context of the community which is often an overseen point in web3 ecosystems. Our goal with creating a blueprint based on our learnings of this round is to enable other local communities to speedrun through this process, so they too can quickly experiment and improve how funding is allocated to the edges in their own countries. The blueprint will serve as a step by step guide for local communities on designing, setting up, developing and operating their own rounds with their own incentive design. It will also include multiple templates that will help operators to collect their learnings and share them with other local operators to ensure we’re all collectively improving.

Mission

PGF Ethereum Mexico has the goal to democratize access to funding for Mexican projects creating a verifiable impact to its Mexican members. Our goal by running and experimenting with different mechanisms is to educate community members in the existing Public Goods Funding stack, so they can leverage it in their own communities in the future.
