The project explores decentralized identity and SmartInvoice for grant giving in small jurisdictions, addressing Web3 and governance challenges, with a focus on improving funding accessibility.

Mainstream science and technology studies (STS) often overlooks that technologies, concepts, and strategies for post-modern decision making and social deliberation are impractical for small jurisdictions. Decentralised identity is no exception, but systematically overlooked by the literature.

Especially small initiatives and administrations of small jurisdictions struggle with the accessibility of funding streams, which has led to the private provisioning of public infrastructure by large Web3 players in states like Dominica and Palau.

For this reason, Ben joined the Metagov Grant Innovation Lab in February 2024, where he explored the usage of SmartInvoice as a tool for grant giving and designed a research agenda for assessing Web3 grant programs.

Through working on abductive methodologies, he addresses challenges of both Web3 and real-world governance and funding.
