Internet Freedom for Iran was established just one month after the tragic murder of Mahsa Amini by the Islamic Republic, with the support of several lawyers and technology activists. Initially, our mission was to campaign for international sanctions against companies like ArvanCloud, who were collaborating with the Islamic Republic in restricting internet access for the people of Iran.

A few days after the sanctions on ArvanCloud were imposed by the European Union, we organized a grassroots campaign on November 18, 2022, which compelled ArvanCloud to leave the United Arab Emirates. A few days later on November 20, 2022, we discovered that despite the EU sanctions, the company M247 was continuing its collaboration with ArvanCloud. We immediately sent an official warning and drafted a legal complaint, declaring that this clandestine collaboration would lead to heavy penalties for the company by the European Union.

On November 23, 2022, M247, after evaluating the matter, publicly announced the termination of its collaboration with ArvanCloud. One month later, the same fate befell Serverius Company Netherlands as well.

In the following months, ArvanCloud and its executives were sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, marking the final chapter of this dark Company.

Outside of our work identifying ArvanCloud to international authorities, our group also fundraised to purchase and distribute internet tools. In May 2023, with the financial support from IranUnchained, we began providing direct assistance to the people and political activists in accessing the internet through by distributing VPNs/starlinks/routers/etc…

In the first round of IranUnchained support, we successfully distributed over 150 routers, 200 Torguard $20 gift cards, and 200 one-year VPN accounts to the people and political activists. On the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's murder, we provided over 500 VPN accounts, three Starlink devices, and over 400 router devices with one-year accounts to Iran.

Our group remains committed to preventing the disconnection and restriction of the internet for the people of Iran by the Islamic Republic.
