Ordo Felidae
Peregrino aims to bridge the biodiversity financing gap by tokenizing and monetizing scientific data on animal behavior, creating a new asset class to generate funds for conservation efforts.

TL;DR: Peregrino is a novel framework for biodiversity finance assets backed by real-world behavior patterns like animal migration.

An Ordo Felidae serious yet playful experiment. Wink Wink: If you are curious, hit us up, we are looking to expand the fam.

Issue Statement

In their report on “Financing Nature”, the Paulson Institute found an average gap of $711 billion per year in biodiversity financing. Peregrino addresses this insufficient funding for biodiversity and the lack of financial incentives for stakeholders to engage in these efforts by creating a direct funding opportunity backed by scientific data and research findings.

By enabling the possibility of tokenizing this data, Peregrino involves the scientists who generate public reports and datasets of animal behavior that can be tokenized, alongside the conservation organizations that they work with which are affected by the financing nature gap and the local communities that can benefit from supporting conservation efforts by serving as local monitors, and finally, investors who access this new asset class for RWAs.

Biodiversity and habitat loss pose existential threats to ecosystems, wildlife, and human well-being, urgently calling for innovative solutions that can mobilize substantial financial resources to support conservation efforts. Peregrino's new asset class will unlock new funding streams for conservation, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity on a large scale.

Current Pilot Plan

Phase 1) Tokenization of Animal Migration Patterns

The process starts by curating data sets from public scientific research archives, moving on to the training of a model for pattern and anomaly recognition in these data set(s), and finally using these outputs to generate NFTs based on visualizations created from the data finds. A standardization process will follow this, to make it seamless for researchers to be able to upload and tokenize their data.

Our goal is to have a model that can process the +10 billion data points in Movebank’s open database of 8,528 studies on animal tracking providing a new form of RPGF and evergreen funding for research institutions and related conservation efforts.

Phase 2) Live Tokenization of Animal Behavior (TBD)

Expanding on phase one, we plan to field test a financial incentives model.

Swimlanes User Flow for Phase I-II

The above user flow is for the initial pilot phase(s). We envision that by having a proven model for tokenizing past research, and later, the live monitoring of wildlife alongside a financial incentives mechanism for locals can set the base for continuous development of more models for biodiversity finance like dgov for stewarding conservation treasuries, liquidity pools for new research, dollar cost average and other investment or donation frameworks, other financial assets like indexes and derivatives, and advances in dMRV that can leverage a growing network of local monitors.

Background

Peregrino is a step back [for context] in Ordo Felidae’s plans to experiment within the growing interspecies research space, where groups like the Earth Species Project are pioneering AI-powered interspecies communication, and futurists like Jonathan Ledgard conceptualized ‘interspecies money’.

We believe that for a sustainable future to emerge a new junction is necessary, where we don’t wait for animals to converse in English or hodl their own currency, but where their behavioral patterns rule a new asset class, incentivizing us (humans) to protect and regenerate their ecosystems.

Our community is led by a previous founder with one exit under his belt, who was a former executive at the leading DePIN blockchain, and co-instigator of Venezuela’s ETH community and its B Corps movement, and a former third sector leader from the UN and iNGOs, alongside a ragtag group of AI and web3 hackers.
