Out Build is Innovating on Project Funding

Welcome to Out Build, an innovative project designed to transform the landscape of Web3 grants and funding. In alignment with the mission of the Cartographer Syndicate, Out Build uses a collaborative, open innovation approach to support and grow the Web3 community. Inspired by "Survivor," this high-stakes, reality TV-style competition showcases visionary builders as they vie for funding, evaluated by an expert panel of judges.

Concept and Structure

Duration: 5 weeks
Format: Weekly project presentations
Elimination: Builder with the lowest score is removed each week
Weekly Prize Pool: Shared among remaining contestants each week (e.g. 1 ETH, 1000 USDC)

Builders must demonstrate significant progress and potential impact to stay in the game and earn a portion of the weekly prize pool. Judges evaluate presentations based on innovation, feasibility, scalability, and societal impact. The goal is to support forward-looking ideas and ongoing contributions.

Weekly Episodes and Filming

The journey is captured in a dynamic five-episode series, featuring:

  • Builder presentations
  • Judges' deliberations
  • Suspenseful voting-off ceremonies

Viewers will witness the transformation of ideas into actionable projects, gaining insights into the challenges and successes in the decentralized tech space. This aligns with the Syndicate's goal of enhancing news aggregation and event coverage in the Web3 grants ecosystem.

Judges and Evaluation

Unlike Survivor where peers vote each other off, Out Build takes an approach more like Shark Tank. A panel of judges provides feedback on the spot after the presentations and then scores the projects using a rubric.

Panel: Industry leaders, seasoned investors, and successful entrepreneurs Criteria: Innovation, feasibility, scalability, societal impact
Feedback: Constructive and insightful, providing learning experiences for builders and viewers, contributing to the Syndicate's philosophy of knowledge sharing and long-term vision.

Pilot Program

The pilot program for Out Build will take place in Philadelphia and be produced by Mike Ghen, organizer of Decentralized Philly and an Allo on Arbitrum Hackathon participant. It wil feature five builders from the local community. This initial run will allow us to refine the format and showcase the incredible talent within our city.

Location: Blockspace, Philadelphia
Participants: 5 builders from the Philadelphia community
Duration: 5 weeks
Format: Weekly project presentations, eliminations, and prize distributions
Filming: The entire process will be filmed and edited into a five-episode series Weekly Prize Pool: TBD

How Out Build uses Allo Protocol

Out Build uses the Allo Protocol to implement its on-chain funding mechanism. The custom "Survivor" allocation strategy is designed to mirror the elimination process of the show "Survivor," ensuring transparency and fairness.

Survivor Strategy Overview:

  1. Pool Creation: Admin selects start time, round duration, number of participants/rounds, and reward per round.
  2. Recipient Addition: Admin adds recipients up to the maximum number of participants.
  3. Voting: Judges, verified by their NFT ownership on-chain, vote for participants after each round duration.
  4. Elimination: The participant with the fewest votes is removed when the admin calls the "Distribute" method.
  5. Reward Distribution: Remaining participants share the round rewards equally. In the final round, the last participant receives the entire reward.

The Survivor strategy is fully integrated within the Allo protocol, using the BaseStrategy contract and depending on the live versions of the Allo and Registry contracts.
