Measuring the Impact of PETGAS: Examples and Standard Metrics

The following is an example of key metrics that we track and reduction figures based on internal scientific analysis of output emissions and multiple peer reviewed published scientific research studies.

  • Kilos of Plastic Removed Tracking by weight and type of each kind of plastic that is removed from the environment.
  • Number of Participants per Cleanup Tracking participants, whether they are locals or tourists, gauging their level of interest in joining future cleanups and taking on leadership roles for our ambassador program.
  • Lifecycle Emissions Reduction: Direct measurement of CO2 reduction per ton of plastic transformed; about 1.5 tons of CO2 is avoided for each ton of plastic processed through the PETGAS technology.
  • Landfill Gas Emissions: Avoidance of methane and CO2 emissions by preventing plastics from reaching landfills.
    • Methane Reduction: Between 0.5 and 2 tons of CO2 equivalent per ton of plastic that is diverted from landfilling.

    • Carbon Dioxide Reduction: 10 grams of CO2 per kg of plastic diverted from landfills.

  • Incineration Avoidance Metrics: Comparison of emissions when plastic is transformed versus incinerated.
    • CO2 Reduction: Approximately 3 kg of CO2 is reduced per kg of plastic transformed instead of incinerated.
    • Reduction of Nitrogen Oxides and Particulate Matter: Ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 kg of NOx and 0.1 to 1 kg of particulate matter per ton of plastic transformed, rather than incinerated.
  • Sanitary Landfill Gases:
    • Methane Reduction: About 0.5 to 1 kg of CO2e per kg of plastic disposed in landfills is avoided through the transformation process.

Recycling is a Lie

This is the stark reality check we need to face -challenging the common misconception regarding our plastic waste management.

Less than 10% of plastic is recyclable, with only around 9% of annual plastic waste being recycled globally. Among the various types of plastic, only two categories of plastic are recyclable: PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene). These plastics are commonly used in items like water bottles (PET) and milk jugs (HDPE) and have established recycling streams. However, even with these recyclable plastics, the challenges of contamination and sorting limit recycling capabilities.

Patented Process and Outputs

Through a patented non-catalytic pyrolysis process called thermo-distillation with cracking, Petgas is able to transform all types of plastic mixed together into clean ready-to-use fuels.

This process is carried out in the absence of oxygen. There is no combustion, we do not burn plastic or generate any kind of polluting emissions into the environment. We transform plastics from their original solid state to gaseous form which is then transformed into fuels based on the length of their carbon chains.
