An initiative providing resources and development platforms for African Web3 innovators, offering grants, education, and a community for transformative tech growth.

Overview

Public Good Africa is an initiative dedicated to supporting and funding Web3 innovation across the African continent. Our mission is to unlock the transformative potential of Web3 technologies by providing the necessary resources and platforms for builders in Africa.

What are we building towards?

We aim to create a platform that integrates with and innovates on existing Public Good Funding tech stacks, optimized for the African ecosystem. This platform will facilitate grant programs, support projects in accessing public good funding opportunities, provide education, and build a community to serve as coordination points for Public Good Funding in Africa.

Why are we putting in the sweat and blood?

As a youthful continent, there is a steady rise in talented developers, builders and digital natives in Africa who are ready to help contribute to and shape the future of Web3 while harnessing the technology to also impact the continent. Web3 has provided pathways of employment, network and global participants that we want to increase within the region. Unfortunately, the lack of funding and awareness among builders in Africa is a significant barrier to realizing this. Without adequate, consistent funding and knowledge of available opportunities, Africa risks falling behind in harnessing the full potential of Web3 technologies. This gap not only impedes the continent's progress but also prevents Web3 from reaching its full potential in addressing the needs of those who could benefit the most.

PGA focuses on the African continent, aiming to serve builders, developers, and innovators in every African country. The platform will be accessible online, providing a central hub for African Web3 projects to connect with global donors and funders.

We want to see the following materialize:

✅ A platform optimized for talented builders to access funding, increase growth within the ecosystem and foster deeper connection within builders in the region. ✅ Aggregating impact projects across Africa in need of funding. ✅ Running grant rounds to provide funding to innovators and builders in Africa building solutions for Web3.

This approach ensures that:

✅ More projects can find funding to solve pressing problems using Web3 technologies. ✅ Awareness of Public Goods and their impact is increased among diverse groups. ✅ Developers and builders gain a deeper understanding of how to leverage Web3 for societal impact. ✅ Funders and donors are informed about the various projects and their potential impact, encouraging more involvement and support.

What will the funds be used for?

➡️ Platform Development and Optimization: A significant portion of the funds will be dedicated to building and optimizing the platform. This platform is central to our mission, as it will connect African Web3 projects with global donors and funders. The development costs include technical infrastructure, security measures, user interface design, and user experience optimization to ensure it is accessible and user-friendly for all stakeholders.

➡️ Grant Programs: Funds will be allocated to initiate and run grant programs that specifically support impactful innovations and solutions in Africa. These grants will provide financial support to selected projects, enabling them to develop and implement Web3 technologies to address various challenges across the continent.

➡️ Community Building and Education: A portion of the funds will be invested in community-building efforts and educational programs. This includes organizing workshops, seminars, and events to raise awareness about the potential of Web3 and public goods. Additionally, it will support the creation of resources and materials to educate developers, builders, and the wider community on how to leverage Web3 for social impact.

By providing a tailored solution that addresses the unique needs of African builders, Public Good Africa aspires to catalyze innovation that can contribute to the continent's development and the global advancement of Web3 technologies.
