The project facilitates coordination and development of open standards for impact reporting among quadratic funding operators and blockchain developers, aiming to improve connectivity and efficiency in the grants ecosystem.

The Quadratic Funding Impact Alliance aims to provide coordination support for quadratic funding round operators, enabling them to work effectively with blockchain developers who create infrastructure for impact reporting and valuation. This initiative addresses the need for better connectivity between grantees, round operators, and infrastructure developers.

As a collaborative initiated facilitated by OpenCivics, round operators from all major Gitcoin Community Rounds, impact reporting researchers, and project leads from multiple key on-chain attestation mechanisms have already been convened and are poised to act together to create groundbreaking and interoperable impact attestation schemas and mechanisms.

The goal of assembling such an alliance of stakeholders is to establish pluralistic and open standards processes for documenting and reporting impact, thus shaping the future of philanthropy.

Objectives:

  1. Enhance connectivity between grantees, round operators, and blockchain developers.
  2. Develop open standards and schemas for impact reporting.
  3. Create a web of trust for impact data, supporting retroactive public goods funding.
  4. Foster an impact economy through incentive mechanisms for impact evaluation.

Activities:

  1. Coordination Calls:
    • Facilitate a series of calls between round operators, grantees, and blockchain developers.
    • Objectives of these calls:
      • Build relationships and improve coordination.
      • Identify and develop open standards for impact reporting.
      • Support the creation of tools and schemas for easy impact attestation.
  2. Development of Open Standards:
    • Collaborate with the Green Pill Dev Network, Hypercerts, and KarmaGap to develop open schemas and tools.
    • Ensure these standards are pluralistic and can be adopted by any group.
  3. Impact Attestation Validator Network:
    • Develop a network where round operators and other stakeholders can validate each other's impact reports.
    • Create incentive mechanisms to compensate for impact evaluation work.
    • Foster an ecosystem where successful impact reporting leads to increased grant funding.

Outputs:

  • Coordination support between impact attestation infrastructure builders, including the Green Pill Dev Network, Hypercerts, and KarmaGap.
  • Enhanced connectivity and collaboration between round operators, blockchain foundations, and philanthropic organizations.
  • Series of calls to coordinate efforts and relationships among stakeholders.
  • Development of open schemas and tools for impact reporting.
  • Creation of an impact attestation validator network.

Outcomes:

  • Improved efficiency and ease of impact reporting for grantees.
  • Increased eligibility for retroactive and future funding based on proven impact.
  • Development of a sustainable impact economy driven by blockchain-based mechanisms.
  • Establishment of a web of trust that supports larger grant allocations based on successful impact histories.

Long-Term Goals:

  • Establish a robust network for impact attestation validation.
  • Enable a sustainable feedback loop in the impact economy, promoting continuous improvement and valuation of impact.
  • Drive the evolution of philanthropic funding through open standards and decentralized technology.

Funding Requirements:

  • Short-Term: Support coordination calls and initial development of open schemas and tools.
  • Long-Term: Develop and maintain the impact attestation validator network and create a self-sustaining impact economy.

Project Leadership:

  • The initiative is a collaborative effort involving round operators, blockchain developers, and philanthropic organizations, including Climate Coordination Network, Token Engineering Commons, OpenCivics, viaPrize, ReFi DAO, Thank Arb, Flow State, Hypercerts, and KarmaGap

Conclusion: The Quadratic Funding Impact Alliance aims to enhance the Web3 grants ecosystem by fostering better connectivity between grantees, round operators, and blockchain developers. By developing open standards for impact reporting and creating a network for validating impact reports, the initiative seeks to evolve the public goods funding landscape by building pluralistic and autonomous impact economies and trust networks among funders and stakeholders. By generating novel incentive mechanisms for impact evaluation, we support thorough and accurate impact assessment, promoting continuous improvement and driving the effectiveness of the grants ecosystem.

By driving the adoption of decentralized impact reporting and open impact standards, the Quadratic Funding Impact Alliance positions the Web3 grants ecosystem at the forefront of philanthropic innovation, setting a precedent for future funding models that prioritize transparency, accountability, and efficiency.
