This project develops a blockchain-based system for issuing water credits by treating and reusing septic waste, converting waste into biodiesel, and improving water treatment processes.

WaterCredits on Gitcoin💧

This grant continues the efforts started under the ReFi DAO Water Circle grant in GR15, with significant advancements in septic waste treatment and the conversion of fats, oils, and grease into biodiesel. The highlight is a pilot project committed to treating septic waste for reuse. A credit class and methodology for water credits are nearing completion in their review process with the Regen Network, and these credits promise additional benefits such as carbon reduction and soil health improvement.

Purpose of these funds: These funds will contribute to the launch of the first water credits on the blockchain. Credits will be issued on the Regen Ledger after the successful treatment and verified reintroduction of water into the system. The pilot project currently excels at separating fats and oils from waste, aiming to convert them into biodiesel, and is now focused on improving water treatment processes.

The primary objectives of this initiative are:

  1. To establish universally recognized water credits, initially backed by the ReFi community and eventually by larger organizations, serving as a foundation for diverse water credit types.

  2. Function as a support system for ensuring the quality of issued credits, with established specific verification standards.

  3. Encourage companies to adopt "Water Positive" or at least Water Neutral strategies, facilitating easier adoption of sustainable water practices.

  4. Promote environmentally friendly water treatment methods, especially those converting waste products into biodiesel, via a tiered credit system.

Water credits will be validated through the Regen Network.

Additional Information:

This initiative aims to advance water treatment and credit development by funding specific areas such as septic waste treatment, biodiesel conversion technologies, pilot projects leading to intellectual property, research sponsorships, and asset acquisition for licensing to water projects.

Validating Water Credits:

Each water credit represents one cubic meter of additional treated water reintroduced into the system.

The initiative will establish a three-tier water credit system based on the quality of treated water to encourage environmentally beneficial practices and technological innovation.

Applicants seeking funding will undergo an evaluation process. Projects will be categorized into one of three water credit tiers based on Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels.

Water Classes:

  • Potable Water Class: TDS less than 400 ppm and sterilized.
  • Agriculture Class: TDS less than 700 ppm, environmentally healthy.
  • Industrial Class: Water of any TDS with a pre-approved buyer or application.

Your support through Gitcoin Beta and participation in the initiative are highly valued. Thank you for your contribution 🙏.
