Blobscan is the first EIP4844 Blob Transaction explorer, a web-based application that offers a seamless experience for navigating and indexing blob data.
The explorer will have data gas metrics to help users understand the costs associated with this new transaction type, blob data decoding for each rollup, and an API to manipulate blobs.
As an open-source project, Blobscan aims to make blob data explorable while preserving it for future research.
Blobscan emerged as one of the finalists in the ETHBogota hackathon and has since received funding from the Ethereum Foundation, Optimism RetroPFG, and Scroll.
State of the Project
We are reaching our first milestone in our roadmap, including the core feature of our webapp.
The key features and developments delivered were:
- Redesigned user interface (UI) with the help of a dedicated designer.
- Rewriting of the blob indexer in Rust for increased efficiency.
- Synchronization with the latest EIP-4844 testnet.
- API specification.
Milestones
- Mid-April: Release of core features and functionality, allowing users to search blob transaction data on the latest devnet version. (COMPLETED)
- End of May: Development of a metrics dashboard, tagging system, REST API, and outreach to rollup projects for feature requests.
- End of June: Finalization of the blob indexer, optimization of the database, completion of documentation, and the addition of the last API feature.
Team, Impact, and Partnerships
The Blobscan team is dedicated to keeping the project viable in the long term by staying up-to-date with Ethereum network upgrades and maintaining compatibility. Blobscan's development relies on grants like the Gitcoin grant to ensure the project's continued operations.
EIP-4844 aims to scale Ethereum, making it more secure and cheaper for Layer 2 solutions to communicate with Layer 1. Optimistic and zero-knowledge rollups can leverage Blobscan to visualize and analyze data sent in their blob transactions.
Blobscan will engage with various rollup projects to offer support for rollup specific data, strengthening its position as a valuable tool in the Ethereum ecosystem.
