TLDR

PositiveBlockchain (PB) is a non-profit association exploring the potential of blockchain technologies for social and environmental impact through its open database, knowledge platform, and global community. This grant aims to support PB’s activities throughout the second half of the year.

Vision 🤝

“What all PB projects share in common is the aim to positively impact people’s lives.”

The mission of PositiveBlockchain is to build the web of knowledge and support collaboration for technology and social impact enthusiasts looking to leverage blockchain technologies for positive environmental and societal change. Through its open-source database and its activities promoting the creation and strengthening of local networks, PB has been for more than 5 years supporting values ​​of inclusiveness, openness and free access to knowledge to advance the democratic understanding & use of blockchain for positive impact.

More than a Digital Public Good 🌍

The PositiveBlockchain database currently lists more than 1500 projects and startups using blockchain technologies for social and environmental impact. These projects are either crowd-sourced or identified and qualified by PB or its alliance partners comprising associations, universities or blockchain foundations. The database is open-source and is used by diverse stakeholders, most of which are researchers, start-up or NGO founders or members. Over the 2022-2023 period, the database has been downloaded over 310 times. On top of providing an open-access to researched information, PB regularly organizes events and meetups to provide visibility to positive impact Blockchain use cases. The non-profit fosters knowledge dissemination about positive Web3 projects in social media to reach a global audience, and regularly collaborate with partners in projects related to Blockchain & SDGs achievement.

Outputs ✨

The grant work will result in the concrete support of PB’s activities throughout the second half of 2023. Those include:

• Improvement of the technical stack for the database’s usability
• Data quality enhancement through alignment with w3c standards and SDGs targets
• Collaboration with blockchain platforms, universities, ecosystem players to gather mappings in blockchain for SDGs
• Organization of events and gatherings to inform and educate about Web3 potential for social and environmental impact.
• Finance the research phase of the development of a Positive DAO — a PositiveBlockchain DAO that will aim to incentivize, decentralize and reward contributions to PositiveBlockchain’s database.

What has been done so far 👏

PositiveBlockchain is a contributor-based non-profit association that was founded in February 2018. In addition to the database containing more than 1500 projects, over the years PB has initiated a myriad of various projects and events. Relevant examples include:

• Collaboration with research organizations and universities for the publication of reports such the Blockchain for Good Report 2022, using the PB database.
• Organization of knowledge sharing and networking events
• Knowledge sharing and free advisory services
• Production of documentation for interoperability with external institutions and partners wanting to use the API
