Hong Kong-based ReFi community aims to combine climate tech entrepreneurs, investors, and officials to use blockchain and Web3 for regenerating the earth and promoting sustainable finance.

TLDR

We're a #ReFi community based in Hong Kong. We are building Asia's largest and most potent combination of climate tech entrepreneurs, investors, builders, policymakers, and government officials. Our mission is to regenerate the earth using the most powerful tools of our time.

The Opportunity in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's government has recently taken a proactive stance in supporting the growth of the crypto and Web3 industries by creating a safe space for companies to operate. The government has launched a new policy initiative called "Hong Kong: Asia's World City for Crypto & Blockchain," which aims to promote the city as a leading hub for these technologies. This initiative will provide a regulatory framework that balances innovation and investor protection, fostering a stable and safe environment for companies to operate.

The Hong Kong government is also showing a strong commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). In 2019, the government launched the Green Finance Certification Scheme, which encourages financial institutions to develop green finance products and services, and provides certification to those that meet certain criteria. The government has also set a target of reducing Hong Kong's carbon intensity by 65-70% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels, and has implemented various policies and initiatives to promote renewable energy and efficiency. In addition, Hong Kong has been a signatory to the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment since 2016, and the government has recently launched a new initiative to promote sustainable finance in the city.

From ESG to ReFi

ReFi is the next evolution of ESG. Rather than simply reducing harm, ReFi aims to support regenerative practices that restore and improve ecosystems and communities. Additionally, the use of blockchain and cryptocurrency can empower solutions that enable transparent, sustainable, and equitable financial systems.

Hong Kong is in the early stages of seeing a thriving regeneration and web3 ecosystem emerge, with several initiatives such as Carbonbase, ImpactNFT Exhibition, NFT Club, Carbon Neutral Club, Carbon Change Summit, ReFi events, and a climate investment club. These initiatives offer a solid foundation for the ReFi Hong Kong community to build upon and create a network of like-minded individuals and organizations committed to regenerative finance and sustainable development.

Kickstarting the community coming together, the first ReFi Hong Kong event took place alongside the inaugural Web3 Festival. Co-orgainzed by arkreen and Wanxiang Blockchain together with HashKey Group and ReFi DAO, we brought together experts from various fields to explore the role of Web3 technology in achieving net-zero goals and advancing the regenerative economy. Check out some of the highlights from the event here: #ReFi Highlights @festival_web3 Day 3

With Hong Kong's ever-increasing commitment to sustainability, coupled with its reputation as a financial centre, presents an exciting opportunity for the continued development of a Regenerative Finance community in this region. We have many exciting plans and developments coming soon…
