Building a community around Web3 grants, focusing on grantees, grant operators, and tool providers, with events, working groups on technical standards, shared databases, application processes, and impact measurement improvement.

This is specifically to support a new initiative from Metagov/DAOstar focused on building a community pertaining to Web3 grants. This community is broadly meant to support to groups of stakeholders:

  1. grantees generally
  2. grant operators, grant program initiators, and grant infrastructure/tooling providers

This community will work to bring together the above groups both virtually and in person (with a specific focus on ETHDenver in late Feb 2024 as the next event). We will also push to have more coordination in terms of web3 grants pertaining to: a) more grant programs coordinating on funding on a single impact area, b) more sharing of resources to make grants more discoverable and to make sure that there is better accountability for both grant programs and grantees. We are also going to be seeding some working groups, starting with one technical group and one impact measurement group.

The technical working group will focus on advancing a proposed metadata standard from DAOstar, on exploring a shared database of approved grantees, and a common app that can make applying for multiple grants easier.

The impact measurement working group will especially focus on the infrastructure (social and technical) that needs to be in place to help improve impact measurement generally.

All of this community building is a follow up to the State of Web3 Grants report co-authored by Eugene Leventhal and Mashal Waqar. Metagov is also seeking support for funding more grants research, but that is beyond the scope of this opportunity.
