Aura is building an expert graph of sybil hunters and a toolbox for them to evaluate unique accounts.
Aura is a decentralized system for experts to select each other as they evaluate subjects in a domain. The first domain is unique humans where Aura serves as an enhanced verification method for BrightID, Gitcoin Passport, Unitap, Discord, etc.
Aura players are trained by other Aura players to evaluate the likelihood that an account of someone they know is the one that should be allowed to link to apps.
Aura preserves the same level of privacy as BrightID in app linking, reusing the same Blind Signature scheme to ensure that apps never know which unique human is using their app, just that they’re only bringing one account.
The inner graph flows energy between Aura players based on how other players perceive their ability to play the game. Energy flow is done using the SybilRank algorithm adapted for a directed graph with weighted edges. This algorithm is based on the well-known PageRank algorithm. It works better when edges represent a transitive relationship, which is possible in Aura where edges represent "how well A thinks B plays Aura" rather than "how well A knows B," which was the case in previous BrightID verifications.
Energy flows provide a decentralized way for expert Aura players to select each other. Teams allow Aura to be resilient even if one type of energy becomes corrupted or degraded. Teams must gain the approval of the public consumers of Aura answers. Stakeholders can use Conviction Voting to suggest teams and determine the relative strengths of their inputs in the Aura algorithm.
While useful for sybil protection, many other Aura domains are possible: Gitcoin grantee reviews, NFT curation, authenticity and proficiency certification, etc. Any domain needing expert evaluation is a candidate for decentralization by Aura. Anyone can start evaluating, and no one holds a special position: all experts depend on each other for their authority.
