Dot.alert() develops open-source Web3 knowledge resources for new users, focusing on safety practices, risks, and enlightening articles, powered by a community of African enthusiasts.

Let's make Web3 safer, together!

What is Dot.alert()? Dot.alert() is a knowledgebase that can be used as a reference for exploring Web3 ecosystems because the ELI5 articles are targeted at entry users and can be understood by a non-crypto audience.

The content is open-source: it can be translated in-browser and re-used by Web3 creators; and the platform has been designed as a collaborative space for sharing community expertise and onboarding contributors with specialist knowledge.

What has Dot.alert() accomplished so far? Dot.alert() has published over 40 articles covering Web3 infrastructure projects (i.e wallets, explorers, user-friendly platforms, etc.), transactions (i.e on-chain governance, staking, slot auctions, token swaps, etc.), and use cases (i.e Privacy, Identity, Crowdfunding, Security, Infrastructure, etc.).

Our content is simplified into ELI5 format with clear pointers to provide readers with insights on how to manage risk when engaging with various Web3 operations. We also curate and reflect on regulatory developments related to Web3 platforms to raise awareness about legal frameworks and risks that are emerging around the world.

What progress has Dot.alert() made since the last GG round?

Dot.alert() has cemented its role as a community-focused project, seeking to overcome the frictions that exist between Web3 ecosystems to better inform users. For this purpose, we have:

  • launched and conducted 5 Fortnightly polls which test participants’ knowledge of the Web3 concepts covered in our fortnightly publications.
  • introduced new Monthly reports which provide a breakdown on popular Web3 topics discussed during Twitter spaces.

Dot.alert() has continued to maintain the highest standards in terms of accessibility of information, diversity of contributors, and multilingual community outreach. To this end, we have been:

  • increasing our communications to relay key information relative to Web3 best practice.
  • collecting feedback from visitors to improve the UX/UI of our website for better navigation.
  • providing talented copywriters with further content creation gigs to refine their skillset.

Who contributes/maintains Dot.alert()? Our team is primarily made of Web3 enthusiasts from Africa, a continent that has the fastest growing rate of adoption of Web3 technologies but whose population is still grappling with pervasive issues such as crypto scams, MLM schemes, and online phishing.

Our end goal to raise awareness about the importance of Risk management in Web3 and disseminate best practices for online safety and cybersecurity in the context of blockchain technologies.

What are Dot.alert()'s future plans? Dot.alert() has been growing a diverse audience in Nigeria through social media campaigns across Twitter, Discord, Telegram, and Whatsapp. A concerted approach to SEO through regular audits have contributed to improving the visibility and findability of Dot.alert() content on the web.

As a next step, Dot.alert() will be leveraging its position in the local Nigerian community to source sponsors in the crypto community and offer advertising space for Web3 projects. This will allow us to find alternative funding beyond The Gitcoin Grants programme.

Dot.alert() is dedicated to building a long-lasting community of educators, copywriters, and trainers to support its educational initiatives. We are planning to renew our efforts in Nigeria, which is currently the country with the highest number of crypto users in the world.

Concretely, this will involve:

  • packaging our existing content into weekly infographics to improve our impact among non-native English speakers (from October 2023 onwards).
  • establishing monthly online meetups to raise awareness about Web3 ecosystems and operations among new users (from October 2023 onwards).
  • running quarterly workshops in partnership with local guest speakers to demonstrate Web3 safety best practice to regular users (from January 2024 onwards).

Dot.alert() in numbers:

  • 45 articles
  • 10 monthly quizzes
  • 5 fortnightly polls
