Overview:

ReFi Phangan was established over a year ago as the pioneering node of ReFi DAO in Thailand. Our mission is to develop strategic services and public goods within the Regenerative Finance ecosystem. Our activities primarily revolve around community engagement and environmental stewardship, aimed at fostering a sustainable and regenerative future for Koh Phangan and beyond.

ReFi Phangan is EBF-aligned (Ecological Benefit Framework), meaning that starting with six words: air, water, soil, biodiversity, equity and carbon - we commit to integrating a holistic view of the health and regeneration of our planet.

Past and Current Activities:

Event

  1. Onboarding Events: We have organized 6 Regen Full Moon events in collaboration with GreenPill Phangan, focusing on introducing Phangan residents to crypto and regenerative mechanisms. These events include presentations on ReFi, deSci, and crypto for good, followed by eco-friendly dancing events. The goal of the events is to build networking and enhance coordination.

  • In March we have celebrated our Anniversary with morning meetup in Sushi Love and talks on public goods capitalization and funding utilizing blockchain.

Anniversary

The most recent event we participated in was Koh Celo irl event “CELO: mobile-first blockchain” where ReFi Phangan spoke online and presented the activity recap and future plans for the island economy and for collaborations with Koh Celo.

Koh Celo event

  1. ImpactNFT Collection: We initiated the ImpactNFT concept, collaborating with Clean Phangan community for impactful cleanups. The collection is nearing completion by EcoSynthesisX, with 70% of proceeds supporting environmental initiatives of Clean Phangan on the island.

  2. Cleanups and Environmental Initiatives: We actively participate in cleanups and support initiatives like Monthly Earth Day, Decentralized Cleanup (DCU), and Open Litter Map. Additionally, we are exploring partnerships with ReFi Tulum to amplify our impact.

  3. Education and Outreach: We conducted meetups on crypto wallet usage and onboard new users to platforms like Gitcoin and Giveth Grants, fostering a culture of philanthropy within the community.

Funding:

Most of our funding comes from grants rounds. So far, we have participated in:

  • GG18: Web3 community and education round
  • GG19: Climate solutions round
  • Few Giveth QF rounds
  • EcoSynthesisX Spring QF round

We have gathered around $5000 during one year of activity.

Budget Allocation:

  1. Event Organization: Funding required for venue rental, logistics, and speaker honorariums for future onboarding events.

  2. ImpactNFT Collection: Resources for the marketing, and promotion of the ImpactNFT collection.

  3. Cleanups and Environmental Initiatives: Budget for cleanup equipment, promotional materials, and collaboration with partner organizations.

  4. Education and Outreach: Funds for conducting workshops, producing educational materials, and supporting user onboarding to crypto platforms.

Future Project: Re:Plast Koh Phangan

Summary:

Re:Plast Koh Phangan is a pioneering recycling initiative aimed at revolutionizing the management of plastic waste on the island. By converting plastic waste into valuable, sustainable products, this project significantly contributes to environmental conservation and community welfare.

Background and Rationale:

Plastic pollution poses a severe threat to Koh Phangan's pristine environment. Re:Plast addresses this challenge by engaging the community in effective recycling practices, thus mitigating the impact of plastic waste on the island.

What? Why? How?

Project Objectives:

  1. Minimize plastic waste through repurposing into sustainable products.
  2. Educate the community and visitors on the importance of recycling and sustainability.
  3. Implement advanced recycling techniques to preserve the island's natural beauty.

Methodology:

  • Establish a dedicated recycling workshop equipped with necessary machinery.
  • Conduct recycling workshops and community-driven projects.
  • Produce eco-friendly products from recycled plastics.
  • Build a team for workshop management and educational outreach.

Transformation

Re:Plast Koh Phangan represents a vital step towards addressing plastic pollution and serves as a model for community-based recycling efforts.

Pros and Cons of Sourcing Options:

  • Ordering Machines from China: While providing direct availability and professional manufacture, this option comes with high costs and an increased carbon footprint.
  • Using Precious Plastic Designs: Offers access to a supportive network, customizable designs, and local skill development, despite challenges in assembly and part sourcing.

Considering these factors, Re:Plast will prioritize using Precious Plastic designs to foster community engagement and technical skill enhancement, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and community empowerment.

In conclusion, ReFi Phangan is dedicated to driving positive change through community engagement and environmental initiatives on Koh Phangan. With your support, we aim to expand our impact, foster sustainable practices, and inspire others to join us on this journey towards a regenerative future.
