We're accelerating the development of new botanical-based therapeutics by increasing data availability in nascent legal medical markets.
Our work will reshape the cannabis research landscape through decentralized science, fostering collaboration, and ensuring open access.
OpenCann's Mission
OpenCann is a community-driven initiative, aiming to harness the vast therapeutic potential of phytocannabinoids through a democratized knowledge platform.

Collective Wisdom Meets Open Science
OpenCann is the culmination of two years of extensive research, enriched by countless conversations with experts and stakeholders from both cannabis and web3. Our vision is a community-governed, open-source data marketplace, where collaboration is the cornerstone. This is more than just sharing data; it's about creating an ecosystem where the benefits of cannabis research are accessible to all.
Projects under active development:
- OpenCann Dashboard: the portal to the OpenCann Marketplace and DAO. The dashboard is built on web3 social rails to enable users to interact with each other (e.g. via posts, comments, proposals, bounties, events, etc) in the same place that they're curating, exchanging, and using data.
- Hyperfiles: an on-chain knowledge graph leveraging a collaboratively curated schema library for scientific sensemaking and impact evaluation, equipped with adapters to bridge multiple data sources (both on and off-chain). Developed to solve the data composability problems of the OpenCann Marketplace.
- NEAR Attestation Service: an implementation of Ethereum Attestation Service on BOS that leverages unique features of NEAR's account model and social graph smart contract. Paired with Hyperfiles, this enables users of the OpenCann Marketplace to close the public goods impact funding loop.
- Hypercerts on BOS: an implementation of the Hypercerts standard on NEAR Protocol's Blockchain Operating System (BOS). Developed as a proof of concept tool for listing impact certificates on the OpenCann Marketplace.
- Cannstagram: an image-oriented social media platform that enables users to mint and list posts to the OpenCann Marketplace.
Harnessing Cannabis Potential: A Collaborative Endeavor
The therapeutic applications of cannabis span a wide spectrum. With OpenCann, we're not just exploring this potential, but ensuring it's realized. By integrating artificial intelligence into our framework, we envision a future where AI-driven insights amplify our research endeavors. This is the next step in collaborative evolution.
DeSci and Open Source: The Power of Community
DeSci (decentralized science) is a movement, characterized by:
- Transparency: Ensuring open, verifiable research findings ready for peer review.
- Collaboration: A space where ideas converge, and innovation thrives.
- Data Integrity: Maintaining the trustworthiness of data.
At the core of OpenCann is the ethos of open source. By advocating for free access to software and data, we're laying the foundation for collective creativity. A space where the community's insights drive innovation.
The OpenCann Pledge
OpenCann is more than a project; it's a commitment. A commitment to the community that has molded it, the experts who have enriched it, and the future beneficiaries. By embracing decentralized science, open-source principles, and AI's potential, we're envisioning a future where cannabis research is truly for the community.
