Punk Domains offers a modular, open-source web3 domain protocol enabling various domain types and custom extensions for DAOs, coupled with decentralized chat and token-sending services.

About Punk Domains

Punk Domains is a modular web3 domain protocol.

The Punk Domains protocol is not a fork of ENS or any other protocol, but is a completely unique protocol with its own novel codebase.

All the code is open-source and accessible via GitHub.

What sets Punk Domains apart from other domain protocols is:

A) Its ability to issue an unlimited number of domain extensions (e.g. .arbi, .flr, .sgb, etc.).

B) The architecture is highly modular and allows for various domain types and business models, such as one-time purchase domains, soulbound domains, renewable domains, etc.

C) The purpose of the protocol is to provide domain extensions to DAOs and other web3 communities and projects, serving as a "white-label" solution.

Usage of domains

The most basic usage of web3 domains is to use them as shortcuts or labels for addresses when sending tokens. Instead of having to remember someone's address, you only need to remember their domain name.

For this reason, we've built Send2.name, a universal frontend that allows sending tokens to any web3 domain created via the Punk Domains protocol. Additionally, send2.name also supports ENS and Unstoppable Domains. The website is easily accessible via any mobile wallet with an integrated browser.

But even more importantly, web3 domains can be used as usernames & digital identity in the Web3 Social world.

"Wordpress" for Web3 Social

This is why we have also developed an open-source Web3 Social template, a sort of "Wordpress" for Web3 Social, called Iggy: https://iggy.social/

Any DAO can use Iggy to set up a decentralized chat for their own community. Usernames are issued via the Punk Domains protocol with the DAO's unique domain extension.

For example, the Songbird web3 community has their own decentralized chat created with Iggy called SGB Chat. Usernames on that platform are .sgb domain names.

Other such communities are the BasePunk NFT community (https://chat.basepunk.xyz/) and the Flare web3 community (https://flr.chat/), with many more to come.

Permission-less domains and community-owned chat

The major benefit of Iggy is that it is a pure frontend template with no web2 backend required, which means it can easily be hosted on IPFS. Any community member can run their own instance of the same chat, making it much more resilient and decentralized.

Our mission is to help online communities find a space where they can gather and communicate without the fear of being deplatformed, a space where they can set their own rules and elect their own moderators. A truly community-owned chat.
