Launching a ReFi initiative in Cape Town to host community events, hackathons, and create a digital impacts marketplace to tackle socioeconomic issues and upskill youth. Seeking $4,000 in matched funding.

Younglings, ixo and RLabs have formed a ReFi Local Node in Cape Town to nurture community conversations around the tokenised impacts economy. Our aim is to empower young South Africans to support initiatives that address Cape Town’s most pressing challenges. The core challenges we address are socioeconomic inequality, youth unemployment, and a general lack of access to essential resource flows such as energy, water, sanitation, housing and education. Kindly donate to our grant so we can start our journey of youth-led education for regeneration! With a match funding pool of over $25k thanks to the amazing GitCoin community, Celo and Celo Europe, every single dollar makes a big difference! We intend to raise: 4000USD that will be consciously spent to achieve exponential outcomes:

  1. Host monthly community events: These will include expert guest speakers in ReFi, Web3 and urban challenges in African cities. We hope to engage young people from from RLabs, Younglings, and YOMA. We also hope to engage the City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government, Department of Basic Education, Stellenbosch University Centre for Sustainability Transitions, University of Cape Town, African Centre for Cities, ICLEI Africa, UNICEF, and private sector organisations interested in Web3 and sustainability.

  2. Host biannual hackathons: Focus on upskilling young local software developers. Problem statements encourage hackers to build user-friendly and mobile first dApps that address contextual challenges. Collaborate with other platforms who can provide technical support and infrastructure.

  3. Host a digital Impacts Marketplace: To use the ixo software stack to develop and host a ReFi Cape Town Impacts Marketplace. The objective of this is to support high-impact social projects in developing digital assets for impact measurement, verification and fundraising.
