Youth in Cape Town are leading an urban regeneration project, leveraging Web3 and ReFi technologies to address socio-economic disparities, with a funding goal of $25,000 for programs, events, and a decentralized marketplace to upskill 120 youth.

Youth-led Urban Regeneration

The beautiful city of Cape Town has many challenges, resulting from historical injustices, persistent socio-economic disparities, and rapid urbanisation. As the city continues to grow, addressing these issues calls for innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions.

We have ambitious plans to build a vibrant RefiDAO local node in the Mother City, led by local youth and connected to the global ReFi movement.

With a focus on collaboration, resourcefulness, and a deep understanding the community's real needs, this ReFi Local Node will empower Cape Town's youth to take the lead in urban regeneration efforts, harnessing the potential of Web3 technology and building the capacity of local talent to create a more equitable, resilient, and vibrant Cape Town for all.

We are coming together as Younglings, ixo, RLabs, and the broader Yoma Youth Opportunities Marketplace initiative, to leverage the good work our organisations are already doing to build capacity and empower young developers, now with a mission to create regeneration champions, using Web3 and ReFi to tackle the city's socio-economic and environmental challenges and inequalities.

Your contribution will help catalyse grassroots initiatives that give disadvantaged youth opportunities to learn new skills in Web3, better coordinate community action for positive change, and foster ReFi startup ventures. Our funding target to achieve these outcomes is $25,000.

We will co-host three ReFi Cape Town events and hackathons to engage young people from RLabs, Younglings, and Yoma. Through this we will engage with key stakeholders such as the City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government, Department of Basic Education, Stellenbosch University Centre for Sustainability Transitions, University of Cape Town, African Centre for Cities, ICLEI Africa, UNICEF, and private sector organisations interested in Web3 and sustainability.

We will develop a collaborative decentralized marketplace platform together with Yoma, to provides "Learning to Earning" pathways for 120 youth in the Regenerative Economy.

Your support will not only help us establish the ReFi Local Node in Cape Town but also transform the lives of young developers, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to become Web3 champions in their communities.
