Climate-tech company Sintrop develops a blockchain system to reward regenerative agriculture with 'Regeneration Credits', facilitating carbon market access for small producers and promoting sustainable consumer choices.

OVERVIEW

Sintrop is a climate-tech company in the regenerative agriculture sector that is creating a decentralized blockchain based certification system and a token, the 'Regeneration Credit', to reward regenerative producers and the community for the environmental service of regenerating the Earth. The token distribution model is inspired by Bitcoin and the system will allow small producers to reach the carbon market and get rewarded, to speed up the transition to a regenerative agriculture economy. People and companies will be able to buy the token from the producers and community and use it in the platform to compensate for their degeneration. Regular food consumers will get the regeneration level of the producers to help them choose wisely what they put on their table.

PROBLEM

Chemical agriculture, widely used in the world, is degenerating the Earth. It starts with deforestation, cutting down trees to open space for monoculture. Then the chemicals destroy biodiversity and contaminate the water. Chemical fertilizers are causing soil erosion and when they stop being applied the place is much worse than before. If we keep this pace of destruction, this is the way to food insecurity, lack of drinkable water, mass extinction of biodiversity and global warming. On the other hand, regenerative agriculture is a solution to reverse this scenario. Agroforestry is a solution to reverse all these problems, but we need to scale this method in the whole world. We estimate that we need 660 million hectares of land with regenerative agriculture to reestablish the world's balance. To reach it, there is a huge problem: Small producers don’t have financial incentive to plant forests instead of depleting the environment. The regulated carbon credit market is not accessible to small producers, it is too expensive and bureaucratic process runned by centralized institutions.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

We have several competitive advantages. Comparing to the regular carbon credit market, our solution is free* (except for the network transaction fees), instead of very expensive. Our solution is non bureaucratic and ruled by algorithms, instead of a long process ruled by people. The process is transparent with all data available for the general public, instead of a centralized system that does not show users what is happening. Comparing to traditional agriculture certification systems, our solution offers a free* certification process, instead of a highly expensive one. All data is available to the general public that will be able to look for regenerative certified producers and see the information through a QR code.

SUSTAINABILITY

During operation of Sintrop’s System, regenerative producers will be rewarded with the tokens according to their score obtained in the decentralized inspection mechanism. So the producers can optimize their earnings by becoming more sustainable. And the result is the regeneration of our Ecosystems. If regenerative agriculture becomes the main form of agriculture in the world, we might solve the biggest problems of humanity: Global warming, food insecurity, water scarcity and biodiversity extinction.

MILESTONES

We have been working on this project for three and half years. We first designed the software and published the whitepaper, then we launched the MVP version of the software running in a testnet network. Now we are developing the mobile application interface to allow offline inspections and we are running an operation test. After it, our goal is to officially launch the system on the Ethereum mainnet network or some l-2 solution, launch the token and start operations. To do that, we are looking for an investor partner to help us on this journey to regenerate the Earth.
