Developing an open-source, augmented reality network with a digital land registry, funding public goods, and offering geospatial AR capabilities for next-generation internet experiences.

Building the Augmented Reality Commons The Geo Web is a public geospatial information network for the spatial computing era.

Think of Pokemon Go but as an open, composable, and credibly-neutral network. Our PCO digital land registry and Autonomous Worlds onchain content layer create public consensus for shared augmented reality browsing.

100% of the Geo Web digital land market funds go to funding public goods. The protocol funded the first community-run QF round on the Gitcoin Grants Stack in July.

Support the Next Open Web Devices like the Meta Quest 3 and the upcoming Apple Vision Pro offer a glimpse into the future. “The Metaverse” as terminology may go the way of the “Information Superhighway,” but spatial computing experiences will be too compelling & too useful to not become central to our lives like smartphones have.

There is no turning back, so we choose to lean into it.

As the internet escapes our glowing glass rectangles into the physical world, we’re building to help ensure our lived reality isn’t controlled by app store monopolists, attention economy incentives, and socially isolating algorithms.

We can outcompete the proprietary, extractive competition with public goods flywheels and values. But it starts with a choice. We hope you’ll join us.

What's this Funding For This grant will help fund weekly stipends for the core team leading Geo Web technical & community development—codynhat, gravenp, & tnrdd.

We are 100% bootstrapped through community and open-source grants like this one.

We’re currently focused on completing:

  • Our MUD/Autonomous Worlds AR content layer for the PCO land market
  • An iOS Spatial Browser with geospatial AR capabilities that open web clients (we have those too) can’t yet support
    • You can join our Discord and request access to the TestFlight app build
  • More Geo Web Augments - Onchain, permissionlessly distributed “apps” for composable augmented reality
  • An AR Commons MUD World - Non-property-rights-based AR publishing to complement the PCO land registry
  • A generalized Swift-MUD client - OS library for iOS native apps to read onchain MUD data
