TL;DR
Why?
Colombia is the second-most biodiverse country in the world, with 50% (55 million hectares) of its territory covered in vegetation. However, we lose more than 500 hectares of forest to deforestation daily.
Main Milestones since GG19
- Hired 4 part time interns to collect forest data.
- Collected drone imagery and initial assessment for our second 300 hectares forest reserve in partnership with Gain Forest.
- Weekly newsletter with updates and educational content.
- Joined forces with other Gitcoin grantees to create Let’s GROW DAO, where we hosted more than 350 hours of livestream in 17 different channel partners (X, Youtube, Facebook, Twitch, LinkedIn, etc) with more than 1,100 speakers and 12,000 listeners in the span of GG19’s 2 weeks.

What comes next for KOKO DAO?
Q2 2024 - Q3 2024
- Creation of proof-of-impact certificates for 300 hectares of preserved native forest backed by Gain Forest technology.
- Biodiversity inventory with 3 local forest and biodiversity experts.
Long-term vision
Our goal is to create an accessible blueprint methodology that any rural community in Colombia can use to preserve their small-scale native forests.
With access to initial funding, functional open-source dMRV tools, a financially sustainable business model, and continuous support from an international ReFi community.
